Liaison office congratulates Macao's chief executive-elect

Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao Special Administrative Region congratulated Ho Iat-seng on Sunday after he was elected the fifth-term chief executive of Macao.
Ho obtained 392 votes from a 400-member election committee for the Macao chief executive election.
The liaison office said the election was held in accordance with the law under the principles of openness and fairness. The election fully embodies the successful implementation of "one country, two systems" and "Macao people governing Macao" with a high degree of autonomy.
The office said the people of Macao have actively participated in the election and exercised their democratic rights in accordance with the law. They have articulated their expectations for the next chief executive and new administration of Macao. This exercise is based on the fine tradition in Macao where people cherish the values of loving the country and the SAR, and working together to build consensus and seek development.
The liaison office also expressed the confidence in Ho to unite the people of Macao and lead his new administration to work in concert to build a better Macao.
The office vows to continue the discharge of its duties as authorized by the central government, and fully support the Macao SAR government and the chief executive to exercise law-based governance.
