Beijing posts GDP of $230b in first half
Beijing's gross domestic product stood at 1.6 trillion yuan ($230 billion) during the first six months of this year, down 3.2 percent on a yearly basis, the municipality's statistics bureau said on Monday. The drop is 3.4 percentage points narrower than that in the first quarter.
Electricity use goes up by 6.1% in June
Electricity consumption, a key barometer of economic activity in China, rose by 6.1 percent on a yearly basis in June as the effect of the novel coronavirus epidemic waned, data from the National Energy Administration showed. Total power use stood at 635 billion kilowatt-hours last month. Power use by the primary and secondary industries rose by 12.9 percent and 4.3 percent on a yearly basis, and that of the tertiary industry by 7 percent from the same period a year ago.
