At the Dali snow-kiting training center in Ergune, Hulunbuir, Inner Mongolia autonomous region, enthusiasts from across the country enjoyed the excitement of surfing on ice.
Snow-kiting, or kite skiing, an emerging sport that uses a kite to propel riders as they glide over snow or ice, has become popular in Ergune. It allows participants to cruise over a snow-covered plain, frozen river, lake or even hills. It's challenging and a feast for the eyes.

The center was built in 2016. Around 40 people can be trained at once during peak times, said Niu Zhanhe, a coach.
Niu said Ergune has advantages in the development of snow-kiting — mainly its extreme cold weather. For six months a year it has plenty of snow. Its geographical landscape is a natural resort, he added.
