The China International Import Expo Bureau recently held an online promotional event to attract West African companies to the fifth CIIE, which will take place from Nov 5-10 in Shanghai.
About 70 companies from the region attended the event and watched presentations about the highlights and subsections of the consumer goods as well as food and agricultural products exhibition areas.
Angolan governments and companies had reaped the benefits of participating in the past four editions of the CIIE, said Lu Yuzhong, a counselor at the Chinese embassy in the West African country. Angola, which is China's third largest trading partner in Africa, and China are complementary in terms of economy and have bright trade cooperation prospects, added Lu.
Counselor Lu Jun from the Chinese embassy in Cote d'Ivoire said the African country's companies have been looking to raise the profile of their specialties, especially agricultural products like cocoa, coffee and handicrafts, in the Chinese market through the CIIE.
A variety of goods from Cote d'Ivoire, such as chocolate, pineapple, and tea, have already become popular among Chinese consumers, said G. Kichiedou, CEO of Guanxi Management. He added that the company will continue to make use of the CIIE to introduce more quality products from Cote d'Ivoire to China.
Representatives from the African office of Industrial and Commercial Bank of China and the Asian branch of Standard Bank said they would work together and organize matchmaking sessions to help African companies participate in the fifth expo and tap the Chinese market.
Thirty-one African countries attended the fourth CIIE last year and occupied more than 2,500 square meters of exhibition area.
