Print PrintThe online sales in Taizhou, East China's Zhejiang province amounted to 13.17 billion yuan ($2.02 billion) in the first two months of this year, an uptick of 12.7 percent year-on-year, official statistics from the Taizhou Municipal Bureau of Commerce show.
In addition, residents' online consumption during the two-month period was valued at 12.25 billion yuan, up 7.3 percent year-on-year, with the growth rate being the highest in Zhejiang.
From January to February, the city's cross-border e-commerce exports totaled 1.28 billion yuan.
To date, Taizhou has built nine cross-border e-commerce industrial parks. The two new parks still under construction in Huangyan district and the county-level city of Wenling are expected to be put into operation in the first half of this year.
Meanwhile, e-commerce has become a new engine fueling rural revitalization in Taizhou.
As of the end of February, there were 911 stores from Taizhou selling agricultural products on online marketplaces including Taobao, Tmall and JD.com.
Some villagers-turned-livestreamers in the city have gained huge success in expanding the sales of local agricultural products.
Earlier this year, the local government rolled out a three-year action plan to boost the high-quality development of the e-commerce sector.
According to the plan, the city will strengthen cooperation with e-commerce juggernauts including Alibaba to help local manufacturing enterprises tap online opportunities.
