Fifth CIIE looks to strengthen trade ties between China, Portugal Release date: 2022-04-15 Source:China International Import Expo Bureau
An online event aimed at attracting Portuguese companies to the fifth China International Import Expo was held on April 12. The fifth CIIE will take place in Shanghai this November.
More than 60 Portuguese enterprises were present at the meeting and watched presentations about the food and agricultural products and consumer goods exhibition areas.
Portuguese Ambassador to China Jose Augusto Duarte said companies from his country have attended the expo for four years in a row, though he wishes to see more participate in the upcoming edition. He also expressed hope that the promotional event could increase the popularity of the CIIE in Portugal and that more Portuguese companies can leverage the expo to expand their exports to China, which is the 15th largest importer of goods from the European country.
Joao Falardo at the Trade and Investment Agency of Portugal said his country has started efforts to attract exhibitors to the CIIE since March and is willing to work with organizers of the expo to facilitate the participation of Portuguese companies.
The trade in goods and services between China and Portugal has been growing over the past few years despite the pandemic, and this shows the resilience and strong momentum in bilateral economic and trade cooperation, said Zhao Bentang, Chinese ambassador to Portugal.
Sun Chenghai, deputy director-general of the CIIE Bureau, said Portugal has a variety of high-quality products and brands, and has cooperated with China in a number of fields such as infrastructure, clean energy and digital economy. He added that he expects the CIIE would help more Portuguese companies to tap the Chinese market.
