The city of Ordos in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region will strive to advance five tasks, as the country takes the road to Chinese-style modernization.

That's according to Li Li, Party secretary of Ordos city and a delegate from Inner Mongolia autonomous region to the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, when studying and discussing a report delivered to the congress.

Li said efforts will be made by Ordos to become a national energy and strategic resource base, a national agricultural and livestock product production base, an ecological and frontier security barrier in northern China and a bridgehead for the country's opening-up to the north.

In so doing, Ordos will further promote the green, clean and efficient utilization of coal and promote the high-end, diversified and low-carbon development of the coal chemicals industry.

By 2025, the coal output of Ordos will remain above 800 million metric tons annually, the installed power capacity will reach 100 million kilowatts and the new energy installed capacity in the city will account for more than 50 percent of its total installed power capacity.

The modern coal chemicals production capacity of the city is predicted to top 25 million tons by then, transforming Ordos into a world-class modern coal chemicals industry cluster area.

Meanwhile, Ordos' economic structure will be adjusted to cope with the adjustment of its energy structure.

By 2025, the total output value of the five major industries of wind energy, solar power, hydrogen energy, new energy vehicles and energy storage in Ordos will exceed 500 billion yuan ($71.32 billion). That will make the city a nationally important green energy supply base and a new energy equipment manufacturing base.

In terms of building an important national agricultural and livestock production base, Ordos will continue to adhere to the red line of arable land; promote the construction of high-standard farmland; improve grain production capacity, and accelerate the revitalization of cashmere and promote rural revitalization.

With regard to ecological and frontier security, Ordos will continue to implement the national strategy for ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin.

Meanwhile, plans are for Ordos to consolidate and promote the sand control model of Mu Us sandy land and the Kubuqi desert, and build itself into a national benchmark city for modern social governance.

Additionally, Ordos will actively participate in the construction of the Belt and Road and the China-Mongolia-Russia Economic Corridor, promoting itself as ranging from the hinterland to the frontier of opening-up.
