China becomes front-runner in quantum communication

China has established an integrated quantum communication network measuring over 10,000 kilometers in total length, cementing the country as a global front-runner in the field, said Zhou Lei, quantum communication expert and a delegate to the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China.
"Our job is to take advantage of quantum mechanics to serve our needs and protect the security of our daily communications," he said after the closing of the 20th CPC National Congress on Saturday.
The network integrates fiber optics network on the ground with China's quantum communications satellite Micius. The technology has provided ultra-secure communications for users in finance, energy and government affairs, he said.
Moreover, China is implementing this technology in voice calls, e-mails and other civilian applications, so that ordinary people can also enjoy the benefits of quantum communication services, Zhou said.
"As a delegate to the 20th CPC National Congress, my team and I will create more advanced, mature and self-sufficient technologies to safeguard information security for the country and society," he said.
