North China's Shanxi province sent 55 medics, separated into three batches of teams, to Djibouti, Cameroon and Togo in Africa between January and October, for one-year medical assistance.
With their detailed clinical experience, serious work attitude and superb medical skills, the Shanxi medics overcame various obstacles and improved the health of the local people.
In Djibouti, where there is little rain and lots of sand and dust, medics from Shanxi province have succeeded in using various Chinese therapies such as massage and acupuncture to alleviate the pain of patients suffering from rheumatoid arthritis, neck and shoulder syndrome, facial paralysis, and tenosynovitis.
The medical teams have also carried out various large-scale free medical services, and held medical exchanges and training sessions on traditional Chinese medicine.
The medical team in Cameroon, for instance, held a free medical consultation and donation event in Bangu and Bamendjou cities from Oct 28 to 31. The medics treated more than 1,600 patients and donated medicine for malaria, typhoid fever and diarrhea, as well as masks and disinfectants to local hospitals.
As of Dec 19, Shanxi's medical aid teams in the three African countries have treated 38,411 cases, performed 1,868 surgeries, provided traditional Chinese medical services for 16,654 times, conducted 16 large-scale free medical consultations, and held 11 training sessions.
