Suzhou Mayor Wu Qingwen met with Matthew Margulies, senior vice-president of China operations for the US-China Business Council, on June 27.
Wu stated that the US-China Business Council is dedicated to promoting trade cooperation and economic exchanges between China and the United States. It has played a crucial role in facilitating US investment and cooperation in China.
Suzhou will continue to benchmark itself against top international standards and strive to create a market-oriented, rule-of-law-based, and international business environment. Efforts will be made to provide high-quality, full-lifecycle services to support the development and growth of foreign-funded enterprises.
Wu expressed hope that through the US-China Business Council, more US companies will be invited to invest in Suzhou and take advantage of the vast Chinese market and its opportunities.
Matthew Margulies remarked that Suzhou boasts an excellent business environment and strong market vitality, enhancing the confidence of foreign-funded enterprises in Suzhou's development.
The US-China Business Council will fully promote expanded exchanges and cooperation between leading US companies and Suzhou in areas such as technological innovation and green transformation.
The goal is to better integrate corporate development with local upstream and downstream industrial chains, supporting services, and various talent resources, thereby achieving more mutually beneficial and win-win development.
The US-China Business Council is a non-governmental and non-profit organization headquartered in Washington, D.C. It has offices in Beijing and Shanghai and currently represents over 270 US member companies operating in China.
The United States has become Suzhou's largest single trading partner. In 2022, the city’s trade with the United States reached $57.069 billion. As of the end of 2022, 1,275 US companies were operating in Suzhou.
