Wang Yi warns against creating AI barriers

Foreign Minister Wang Yi warned on Thursday against practices of "building a small yard with high fence" in artificial intelligence, saying that doing so would be a new historic mistake that hinders the technological development of various nations.
Speaking at a news conference at the sideline of the annual legislative session, Wang said Beijing upholds a positive and open attitude toward cooperation with other countries in artificial intelligence, adding that cooperation between major countries over AI is more than important.
He explained China's three focuses — ensuring that AI is a force for good, ensuring safety, and ensuring fairness.
Wang added that China will submit a draft resolution to the United National General Assembly over strengthening AI capacity-building to promote technology sharing and bridge the AI divide.
