China to approve rare earth export applications that meet the requirements

The Chinese government will review the applications for rare earth export and approve applications that meet the requirements to facilitate compliant trade, the Ministry of Commerce said on Thursday.
Some foreign enterprises stated that China's granting process of rare earth export licenses is slow, and their companies may face production suspension. The ministry made the comment in response to such a claim.
He Yongqian, a spokeswoman for the ministry, said rare earth and related items have a clear dual-use nature for both civilian and military purposes. Implementing export controls on such items is a common international practice, and China will grant licenses in accordance with laws and regulations.
In April, China implemented a new regulatory strategy restricting the export of seven heavy rare earth elements, and exports of related items will require licensing.
