Senior Chinese legislator visits Belarus to boost ties

MINSK -- Zhang Qingwei, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China, led a delegation to visit Belarus from Thursday to Saturday at the invitation of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus.
During the visit, Zhang met with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly Natalia Kochanova, Chairman of the House of Representatives Igor Sergeyenko, and co-hosted the second meeting of the China-Belarus legislative cooperation committee with Kochanova.
Zhang said that under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, the China-Belarus all-weather comprehensive strategic partnership continues to advance at a high level.
China stands ready to work with Belarus to follow the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, firmly support each other, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, intensify exchanges between legislative bodies, enhance international coordination, and promote the steady and long-term development of bilateral relations, he added.
The Belarusian leaders said that Belarus attaches great importance to its relations with China, firmly supports China in safeguarding its core interests and major concerns. Belarus looks to strengthen practical cooperation with China, jointly implement major Belt and Road projects, and contribute to the development and revitalization of both countries, they said.
