Over 1,000 packages airdropped over Gaza in 2 weeks

JERUSALEM -- More than 1,000 aid packages have been airdropped over the Gaza Strip since the resumption of the international airdrop operation in late July, with the participation of nine countries, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said on Friday.
On Friday, six countries -- including the Netherlands, which joined the effort for the first time -- delivered 72 food packages. Other participating nations included the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Germany, Belgium, and France.
The airdrops resumed on July 26 after the worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza sparked global outrage amid Israel's continued blockade.
But United Nations officials and experts say the airdrops will have little impact unless Israel opens the land crossings to allow more aid in and permits medical treatment for the malnourished.
Since Oct 7, 2023, at least 201 people have died due to starvation and lack of medical treatment in Gaza, including 98 children, according to figures released by the Gaza-based health authorities on Friday.
In the 24 hours leading up to the report, four deaths were recorded, including two children, the authorities said in a press statement.
