The ongoing exhibition at Plaza 66 on West Nanjing Road in downtown Shanghai is showcasing the 40-years journey of the legendary musical Les Miserables from Aug 9 to 21.
Based on the novel of the same title by French poet and playwright Victor Hugo (1802-1885), Les Miserables premiered in 1985, with music composed by Claude-Michel Schonberg and lyrics by Alain Boublil and Jean-Marc Natel.
Since its debut at the Barbican Centre in London, England on Oct 8, 1985, the musical has toured 455 cities across 57 countries and regions. The first tour of Les Miserables in Shanghai took place in 2003, where 21 shows set a box office record for the city at that time.
