2025 Optics Valley of China World Snooker Wuhan Open begins
The 2025 Optics Valley of China World Snooker Wuhan Open commenced its first rounds on Aug 24 at the Optics Valley Gymnasium of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, with 16 players, including defending champion Xiao Guodong, opened the event with eight matches.

At Table 1, Xiao Guodong faced Thailand's Mink Nutcharut, ranked 108th in the world. Xiao delivered an impressive performance, scoring two century breaks (137 and 147 points) and securing a 5-0 victory to advance to the upcoming matches.
The Wuhan Open is the inaugural ranking event of World Snooker's new season, spanning seven days until Aug 30. Seventy players from 12 countries will compete in 70 matches, with 13 of the world's top players participating.
The event follows a classic format: the main draw up to the quarter-finals is best of nine frames, the semi-finals are best of 11, and the finals are best of 19.

"Since Wuhan first hosted the World Snooker Tour in 2023, we have fallen in love with this captivating city," said Jason Ferguson, chairman of the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association. "This year, we are grateful for Wuhan's warm welcome once again." He noted that China has become a true snooker powerhouse and hopes for players to create new memorable moments during this event.
