Strength of forests: Zhang Yufei promotes eco-activism in new ad

A public service advertisement featuring Chinese Olympic swimming champion Zhang Yufei was released on Wednesday in Beijing to honor generations of ecological guardians committed to expanding greenery and forest conservation.
"I know speed with victories measured by seconds. But some victories can't be timed, like the persistent growth of trees…" Zhang says in the ad, titled Strength of Forests, Wisdom of China.
Filmed at a state-owned forest farm in Hongya County, Sichuan province, the ad starts with Zhang talking about the concept of the forest's "four treasures" – as sources of water, economic value, food and carbon storage.
She also calls for actions, urging all parties — government, business, NGOS and individuals — to work together on afforestation and reducing carbon emissions. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the concept of "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets" and the fifth anniversary of China's dual carbon goals.
"As an Olympic champion, Zhang has long been a passionate advocate for public service and enjoys strong influence among the public, especially the young," said Yu Chong, chief representative of WildAid China, a co-producer of the ad.
"We hope more people will join the joint cause of ecological conservation with her advocacy."
Other co-producers include the China Green Carbon Foundation and GreenChina TV.
Zhang sent a congratulatory video to the launch event, stating: "I am extremely proud of our country's outstanding contributions to global greening."
"Addressing climate change and helping achieve the dual carbon goals cannot happen without everyone's active participation. The breath of forests, the strength of China and the vitality of our planet all depend on our collective efforts."
