JINAN -- The total number of registered new energy public buses had reached about 544,000 units by the end of 2024 in China, accounting for 82.7 percent of all urban public buses in the country, a transport official said on Friday.
Li Yang, vice-minister of transport, made the remarks at a green transport promotional event held in Jinan, capital of East China's Shandong province.
As of the end of 2024, the total length of urban public bus lines in operation had reached 1.75 million kilometers, and the total mileage of urban rail transit in operation had reached approximately 11,000 kilometers, ranking first worldwide, Li said.
Li said that at present, over 200 million people across the country are opting to use green travel methods on a daily basis. Among them, 100 million people commute efficiently by rail transit, 100 million people take public buses, and 24 million people choose to ride shared bikes.
Li also called on local authorities to further improve urban public transportation services and create an environment that is more conducive to green travel.
