Fairs boost city's status as global art trade hub
The 13th edition of ART021 will take place at the Shanghai Exhibition Center from Nov 13 to 16, showcasing 139 galleries and institutions from 50 cities in 22 countries and regions, according to Chen Jinghua, general manager of ART021 Group Co. Thirty-three galleries from abroad will make their debut at ART021 this year, which "highlights the importance of Shanghai as a bridge connecting China and the global art market", he says.
This year, the art fair will introduce a series of galleries from Southeast Asia, launching a new platform for collaborations and exchanges among countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative, Chen Jinghua says.
Meanwhile, the upcoming eighth edition of the China International Import Expo will have two new exhibitors at its cultural relics and artworks section. Two leading auction companies, Christie's and Phillips, will attend the expo together, illustrating Shanghai's impact as an important global art trade center, according to Jin Lei, deputy director of the municipal administration for culture and tourism.
This year, the art trade week is promoting the integration of art, business and tourism, and introducing a series of events to create vibrant artistic consumption landmarks featuring youthful and trendy energy, Jin says.
