Chinese lawmakers raise 473 proposals to annual legislative session by Monday noon

A total 473 motions raised by deputies were handed in to the fourth session of the 13th National People's Congress as of 12 pm on Monday, the deadline for receiving motions for the session.
"Last year, NPC deputies overcame difficulties caused by the pandemic and tried their best to keep in touch with the people, learning their problems and formulating motions," Guo Zhenhua, head of the group for handling motions with the session's secretariat department, said on Tuesday.
"Such practices lay a firm foundation for promoting the quality of motions," he added.
Of the total motions, 465 focus on the legislative agenda, covering various aspects, including people's livelihoods, social governance, green development, public health and national security, according to Guo.
Also, the department received about 9,000 suggestions from deputies, mainly concerning promoting village revitalization, strengthening protection on intellectual property rights, improving technological innovation of enterprises and creating a better digital environment.
Furthermore, ensuring food security, offering stronger mental health education for youngsters and deepening medical reforms were frequently mentioned in the suggestions, the department said.
"The NPC Standing Committee attaches great importance to the motions and suggestions, and will increase communications with both deputies and institutes in charge of the related matters to promote the participation of the deputies in legislation and supervision," Guo added.
