PLA slams US, Canadian warships transit in Taiwan Straits

The People's Liberation Army Eastern Theater Command condemned the United States and Canada for sending warships through the Taiwan Straits on Friday, saying the action seriously jeopardized peace and stability in a statement issued on Sunday.
Senior Colonel Shi Yi, spokesman of the theater command, said the US guided-missile destroyer USS Deway and Canadian frigate HMCS Winnipeg sailed through the Taiwan Straits on Friday. The theater command had dispatched naval and air forces to follow and monitor the voyage.
The US and Canada conspired to provoke and stir up trouble, the action is vile in nature and seriously jeopardizes peace and stability across the Straits, Shi said.
Taiwan is a part of Chinese territory, forces of the theater command remain on high alert and resolutely counter all threats and provocations, he said.
