Hou Yan, a Qinqiang actress, is tightly bound to the remote rural areas of the Ningxia Hui autonomous region. Everyone shows up when she gives a performance there.
Hou is also a delegate of the 20th National Congress of Communist Party of China.
As the laureate of the Plum Blossom Award, the highest theatrical honor in China, she is on the march of cultural poverty alleviation.
