The People's Liberation Army began a military exercise in the Taiwan Strait on Wednesday morning, according to a spokesman.
Senior Colonel Shi Yi of the PLA Eastern Theater Command said in a statement that the "Strait Thunder-2025A" exercise is underway in the middle and southern areas of the Taiwan Strait, focusing on tactics and maneuvers of identifying suspect objects, warning and expulsion, as well as interception and seizure.
He said the operation is intended to test the troops' capabilities in regional monitoring and control, joint blockade, and precision strikes on key targets.
This follows combat drills by the PLA Eastern Theater Command surrounding Taiwan Island on Tuesday, involving ground, air, naval and missile forces.
