BEIJING -- The Standing Committee of the 14th Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee opened its 12th session in Beijing Monday under the theme deepening economic reforms.

Wang Huning, chairman of the CPPCC National Committee and a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, attended the meeting.

Hu Chunhua, vice chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, presided over the opening meeting and called on all members of the CPPCC National Committee's Standing Committee to engage in in-depth discussions and offer suggestions about deepening economic reforms in a bid to advance Chinese modernization.

It is important to fully understand the significance of deepening economic reforms for advancing Chinese modernization, said He Lifeng, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Chinese vice premier, who was invited to attend the meeting and deliver a report.

He highlighted concrete reforms concerning a high-standard socialist market economy, high-quality economic development, macroeconomic governance, high-level opening up, and ecological progress.
