BEIJING -- The history of Taiwan's recovery from Japanese occupation in World War II demonstrates that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory, a Chinese mainland spokesperson said Wednesday.

Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, made the remarks at a press conference.

China on Tuesday announced commemorative activities to mark the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. The activities include a gathering around Oct 25 to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Taiwan's recovery from Japanese occupation.

Taiwan's recovery is a significant achievement of the victory in the war, forged through the dauntless struggles and sacrifices of all Chinese people, including those in Taiwan, and is worthy of commemoration by compatriots on both sides of the Strait, Zhu noted.

Zhu also criticized Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party authorities for glossing over and whitewashing Japanese colonial rule, in disregard of historical facts, to serve their separatist agenda, calling their acts despicable and a betrayal of the nation.

She called on the people of Taiwan to join their mainland compatriots in remembering the war history, upholding the overall interests of the Chinese nation, and working together for national reunification.
