‘Paintings from Nature’ on display in Beijing

The Louis Vuitton Beijing Espace Culturel Art Space is showcasing "Painting from Nature," an exhibition featuring the works of renowned artists Joan Mitchell and Megan Rooney. It offers a unique dialogue between two generations of abstract expressionism.
Mitchell, who passed away in 1992, was a pivotal figure in the Abstract Expressionist movement, drawing inspiration from masters such as Monet, Van Gogh, and Cézanne. Her mature works, influenced by the landscapes of Vétheuil along the Seine, utilize color and light to evoke deep emotional responses.
In contrast, Rooney, born in 1985 and based in London, is known for her dynamic, large-scale paintings that often incorporate performative elements. Her 2022 exhibition, "The Fugue of Color," at the Louis Vuitton Foundation in Paris, was celebrated for its innovative blending of artistic forms.
Running through Oct 19, the event coincides with the centennial of Mitchell's birth, creates a bridge between her enduring legacy and Rooney's contemporary innovation. It invites visitors to engage with a sensory dialogue that connects past and present interpretations of abstract expressionism.
